ÂTESTING FOR A LEARNING DISABILITY:
A learning disability does not go away. But, if discovered early, a student can receive intense remediation (tutoring) and learn how to compensate. DO NOT WAIT until the child's performance is 2 grades below grade level. By the time this is recognized, it becomes an emotional issue and not only will you pay for remediation of the learning problem, counseling will also be necessary. A bright child is usually aware of not learning as well as his/her classmates. Counseling is necessary to help her/him understand that he/she is just as smart, but learns a different way.
Intensive testing must be done to determine the nature or the problem causing this bright child to struggle in school, or have difficulty learning.
ÂKINDS OF TESTING:
A battery of tests are used to determine achievement, cognitive abilities, comprehension, reasoning, processing speed, visual & auditory processing, fluency, short and long-term memory.
